Description Klaus-J. Wolf 2003-01-11 21:10:43 UTC
In relatively high frequency, ImageMagick's display(1) seems to crash and kill
the whole X session it is running in.

This happens also with graphics that can not be considered too big (e.g.
652x872, which is smaller than my physical screen).

The problem occurs mainly when closing the picture or clicking inside.

try 5.5.3.2 and report if you have the same problem, please
Comment 2 Klaus-J. Wolf 2003-01-11 21:39:49 UTC
5.5.3.2 seems to have the same problem. Quitting the program also quitted X, on
my second try.

What vga card ? Any chance to try different drivers ?
Comment 4 Klaus-J. Wolf 2003-01-16 04:17:02 UTC
GeForce MX 440.
Everything (what I normally use) works, including DRI. display(1) not _always_
crashes.
Hmm, it's possible that the problem is related to a library conflict which I
have discovered (& fixed) today. Since I cannot reproduce the problem with
display(1) at the moment I will try to check later.

Let me know. Also, what library conflict was it ?
Comment 6 Klaus-J. Wolf 2003-01-19 17:03:01 UTC
I really can't reproduce that error reported anymore. (At least not now, no
matter how often I try ;-)

I think the main problem was, that for some reason display(1) was linked to a
different version of libpng than the what the headers were from. Maybe, this
fact points to a more important problem, since ImageMagick was not the only
victim of this confusion. (Installing doxygen had made this conflict emerge,
since that port relies on libpng-1.)

After I all, I can't swear, so... 8-}

well, that issue of libpng is resolved now. Things which really really really
really need libpng-1.0* will have to specifically link to it, because
libpng-1.2* is the default. note that libpng-1.0.15 is where the fix started.
