The system was 1.4-rc1 and continuously updated. An emerge -e world fails on the ebuild with many 'jade:' errors. "Cannot generate system identifier" Consequently the emerge world failed.
Try these steps: http://www.gentoo.org/~satai/sgmlfix.html
The same for me. Tried the umerge emerge packages.txt thing you propose satai... Then it fails, still at the same ebuild docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.11-r2 but with errors such as : jade:/etc/sgml/sgml-lite.cat:1:8:E: cannot open "/usr/share/sgml/stylesheets/sgmltools/sgmltools.cat" (No such file or directory) jade:/etc/sgml/sgml-lite.cat:1:8:E: cannot open "/usr/share/sgml/stylesheets/sgmltools/sgmltools.cat" (No such file or directory) jade:/etc/sgml/sgml-lite.cat:1:8:E: cannot open "/usr/share/sgml/stylesheets/sgmltools/sgmltools.cat" (No such file or directory) make[2]: *** [api.html] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.11-r2/work/docbook-utils-0.6.11/doc/HTML' Reading from other related bugs and the content of the offending /etc/sgml/sgml-lite.cat I tried : install-catalog --remove /etc/sgml/sgml-lite.cat /usr/share/sgml/stylesheets/sgmltools/sgmltools.cat (Don't know if this script did anything else than removing the offending line from the /etc/sgml/sgml-lite.cat file btw...) And now docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.11-r2 merged... I hopefully will now, at last, be able to emerge xsane (of which docbook... was a dependancy) Perhaps could you, satai, add some comments to your instructions ? Such as they are, they didn't do the trick.
Yeah, I should add a comment that it's safe to rm -rf /etc/sgml at some point in there. I'll add that in the next revision of the hints file.
