Description marchino 2003-01-11 17:05:42 UTC
After booting liveCD, if one tries to load sym53c8xx module system will hang
with several scsi timeouts from scsi subsystem. I think it could be caused by
USB modules that are compiled into the kernel and loaded automatically at startup.
This module (sym53c8xx) has to be insmodded before USB to work properly?!
Comment 1 Daniel Robbins (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-11 21:12:36 UTC
Not sure. What type of SCSI card do you have? Assigning to viz.
Comment 2 marchino 2003-01-12 02:27:35 UTC
Controller tested is Tekram DC-390U3W, tried both with sym53c8xx and
sym53c8xx_2, similar result.
Comment 3 Bob Johnson (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-01-15 14:54:57 UTC
can you give more info about your system
Im using the exact same scsi card, which works fine
with livecd.

btw, check irq's

MB is Gigabyte GA-8SR533, all firmware are updated.

That's my dmesg from RH 8 (which obviously works:)

Have you tried the noapic, acpi=off kernel parameters.
I was playing around with apm yesterday, and had almost
the exact same problem as you when it got to the scsi card.
Never would finish booting..
