Description Robert de Vrey 2006-06-20 11:12:49 UTC
A combination of domain name after helo and a certain e-mail address will result in an incorrect response from sendmail.
The above picture shows the response of senmail
Current version: 8.13.7-r1

This results in not reseiving all my e-mails (50% ?)
Comment 1 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-20 11:19:04 UTC
Well sorry, try to describe again and better.

- attach everything needed here
- post your sendmail version
- post steps needed to reproduce the problem
- also post emerge --info output

A half-censored pictures with nothing apparently wrong is not useful for debugging the problem.
Comment 2 Robert de Vrey 2006-06-20 12:23:49 UTC
However if you look carefully you will see that only the email address is cencered and that the 250 2.1.0 response is NOT on a new line but behind the e-mail address

however I can send you the e-mail address personaly so that is is not disclosed for spam.

On my website www.marpa-ict.nl (bottum main page) you will find an e-mail option that gives you the possibility to send you address personaly.
then I can disclose the e-mail address and other data for testing.
It works only with certain combinations

regards

Robert
Comment 3 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-20 12:27:15 UTC
Look, we don't have time for such games, sorry...

Either post/attach all needed info here as requested in Comment #1, or don't file bugs if you don't want to provide information needed to solve them. Thanks.
Comment 4 Robert de Vrey 2006-06-20 12:53:31 UTC
Well can you garantee that the e-mail address will not be added to a spam list?
You see I can disclose but not like this, do you want the bug ?
Comment 5 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-20 13:34:51 UTC
Look, I've had enough. This is a volunteer project w/ limited number of developers and limited time. So, don't waste our time bugging us about something where you are not willing to provide enough info to debug the issue. Additionally, don't waste out time further by sending emails directly to developers from an address that *bounces* the mail.

550 5.1.1 <*****@*****-***.nl>... User unknown

Thank you for making me waste my time answering to an address that doesn't receive mail.

Closing.
Comment 6 Robert de Vrey 2006-06-20 14:06:43 UTC
AND MY FRIEND THAT IS THEEEEEEEE BUG

THE ADDRES DOES EXIST FOR SOME USERS BUT SOME EMAIL ADDRESSES GIVE THE WRONG RESULT.

THE A-MAIL ADDRESS IS WITH MY PROVIDER AND IS DIRECTLY FORWARDED TO:

AND YES THAT ONE DOES EXIST TO BUT SOME COMBINATIONS OF EMAIL ADDRESES AND DOMAINAMES AFTER THE helo COMMAND RESULT IN THE WRONG RESPONSE OF SENDMAIL.
THEN THE MAIL PROGRAM OF MY PROVIDER THINKS THIS ADDRESS DOES NOT EXIST THIS IS BEEN BUGGING ME FOR MONDS

- IF YOU HAD CHECKED THE E-MAIL HEADER OF OF THE RESPONSE YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN THAT MY ISP HAS ACCEPTED MY PRIVATE ADDRESS AS VALID BY MY MAIL SERVER NOT DUE TO THE WRONG RESPONSE OF SENDMAIL !

- SECONDLY AS MOSTS ISP'S MY ISP DOES NOT ALLOW SENDING TROUGH ITS MAIL SERVER WITH AN INVALID SENDER ADDRESS

- THIRD YOU NOW HAVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE DATA YOU NEED ......... YOUR PRIVATE MAIL ADDRESS WICH IF ITS SO IMPORTANT YOU CAN ADD AS THE NECESSARY INFORMATION YOU NEED YOURSELF

THANK YOU FOR WASTING MY TIME
Comment 7 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-20 14:11:28 UTC
Fix you broken Caps Lock key.
Comment 8 Robert de Vrey 2006-06-20 14:18:51 UTC
that is a bug to it tends to switch on when somebody else needs the extra attention th reach the insite of his or hers brain
I consider it a minor bug, last on the list to be solved. I some never reach the end of the list

Comment 12 Robert de Vrey 2006-06-21 12:10:29 UTC
For the moment to keep the possibility to reproduce the bug stable I created a temp. solution. By using fetchmail to obtain my mail from my ISP instead of forwarding.
Comment 13 Robert de Vrey 2006-06-21 13:07:55 UTC
New test results: it is also happening with fetchmail but only for the local user rdvrey

this doesn't make any sense, please attach your sendmail.mc / access configuration file (obfuscate private info if you have).

I also need the output of sendmail -d0.01

blame your telnet client on windows then
Comment 20 Robert de Vrey 2006-06-22 02:42:32 UTC
The thing is my ISP is using Linux to ..............
And running fetchmail to pickup e-mails and deliver local results in the same

I also find the following logs:

So can you then reproduce this bug with windows ?
Comment 21 Andrea Barisani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-22 02:48:08 UTC
It doesn't matter what your ISP run if it's a *client* issue, besides your
conf looks seriously broken, look at all those errors.

Please come back when your mail setup is fixed. We cannot focus on sendmail
when something else looks broken, besides without doubt it cannot be a sendmail
issue (but for the records of course I don't rule it out with 100% confidence).

Marking as INVALID for now.

Ok actually it does if they are fwding email to your mail server. Still the
fact that only windows shows you that might hint that this problem is not related
to CR+LF at all. (especially if they run sendmail since it doesn't bother about
that)
Comment 23 Robert de Vrey 2006-06-22 03:05:21 UTC
In the mean time I took a laptop with the same windows and it does not have the problem

Sorry,
After removing spamassassin e-mails do get forwarded from my ISP so far.
The carriage return I thought whas the symtom of the problem is not the problem.
But cassed by my the keyboard ?

I will keep monitoring this as for now all e-mails should arrive twice if everything is ok
I would like to be able to open it on later time if neccessary and keep the conence protected.

Robert

Still missing e-mail and I do not know howto reproduce
Now the e-mail is forwarded from my ISP to rdvrey@marpa-ict.nl does not arrive!
And a copy is kept and fetched by fetchmail to localuser devrey and this does arrive!
