After entering runlevel 3 and scanning for ethernet adapters, the system hangs indefinitely after printing "Scanning eth16i...". This happened on an Athlon-XP system with an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard with two onboard ethernet adapters: 1) NVidia MAC + Realtek 8201BL PHY 2) 3Com MAC + BroadCom AC101L PHY Reseting the system, disabling the 3Com adapter in BIOS, and using the Nvidia adapter works around the problem.
Interesting. Thanks for the bug report. I think this eth16i driver is causing some problems for people.
Seeing the same thing on an HP Brio BA200 Celeron 433Mhz Diamond Viper 550 PCI video tulip based NIC, Lite-On 82c168 PNIC rev 32 Locks up with the on board video too
Same thing AMD Athlon (classic) 650 Mhz Gigabyte motherboard 3com 10/100 network card
latest experimental livecd has actual hw detection, should fix this. reopen if needed
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux". I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers, this is the only reasonable way to do this.
