Description Barry Tolnas 2003-01-11 15:02:37 UTC
After entering runlevel 3 and scanning for ethernet adapters, the system
hangs indefinitely after printing "Scanning eth16i...". This happened on an
Athlon-XP system with an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard with two
onboard ethernet adapters:

1) NVidia MAC + Realtek 8201BL PHY
2) 3Com MAC + BroadCom AC101L PHY

Reseting the system, disabling the 3Com adapter in BIOS, and using the
Nvidia adapter works around the problem.

Interesting. Thanks for the bug report. I think this eth16i driver is causing
some problems for people.

Diamond Viper 550 PCI video
tulip based NIC, Lite-On 82c168 PNIC rev 32

Locks up with the on board video too

latest experimental livecd has actual hw detection,
should fix this. reopen if needed

Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
