As summary say (and after consult with Flameeyes) kate crash quite often when kdelibs are compiled with the patch. Step to reproduce it: - open kate, (my default session has ~40 files) - file new - paste some random content - switch to column selection with ctrl-alt-b - select a region starting from column "0" - go down with arrow keys untill it crashes. I've removed the patch, repacked kdelibs-3.5-patchset-02.tar.bz2 and it work like a charm. On a side note, recompiling with debugging, splitdebug and run kate under gdb make the crash appen earlyer and reproducible quite always. see attached further_info.txt for backtrace, emerge --info , emerge -pv

Any idea on when a fix might make it to the tree? This bug is driving me up the wall!
I've dropped the patch in kdelibs-3.5.3-r3, I've left the bug open as the patch is now missing.
Marking fixed, as KDE 3.5.4 is in cvs. Sorry for the problmatic patch, I did not experience any issues testing it.
