the installation works fine until when I have to make emerge --metadata. Then, at 51% there is always a segmentation fault. I have tried also with almost all disabled (noapic, etc.) same problem again. Imposible to install gentoo on my new amd64
Segfaults are often due to bad memory or heat. The version of portage in the 2006.0 stage tarballs tends to sit at 51% for quite a long time, so the fact that it happens there every time, doesn't really mean much. Anyway, even if 'emerge --metadata' doesn't complete, you can still continue. Portage will create the metadata as it needs it.
After completing installing I have the same problen when making emerge --sync Is there a way to test the memory, in order to discard a problem with it?
I have tested the memory with memtest86 (http://www.memtest.org). This program reports no problem with memory
Solved. The memory was bad. After changing it I could install gentoo. (Just problems with DMA for SATA and sound with my nforce4 chipset. I hope I can find a solution for that).
