Description Alexander Skwar 2006-06-15 06:48:54 UTC
I'm using Google Earth 4.0.1563 installed from portage (of course *G*):

[ebuild R ] x11-misc/googleearth-4_beta 0 kB

After using GE for some time, I get a lot of the following in my debug syslog:

Jun 15 13:39:49 blatt [drm:via_mem_alloc] *ERROR* Video memory allocation failed

Also, after some more time, I have to hard reboot my system, as it (or just X?) is totally locked up. To do so, I hit SAK-B (Ctrl+Alt+Print+B).

I never experienced these lock ups before I started using googleearth.

I reported this upstream as well. See:

Comment 1 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-15 06:52:02 UTC
yeah upstream is the right place for it, because it

a) only happens on your system
b) google earth is binary and we cannot support it

When you actually have a patch or a suggestion how to fix it in portage I can do something about it. Please reopen when you have a fix/workaround :)
Comment 2 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-15 08:23:02 UTC
Actually a lot of fixes have been going into upstream in the past few days to fix drivers for Google Earth. Haven't seen any so far for via, though. Feel free to reopen this bug once there's a patch committed to upstream CVS.
