Description Lars Wendler (Polynomial-C) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-15 03:26:53 UTC
since I upgraded from xine-lib-1.1.2_pre20060328-r11 to xine-lib-1.1.2_pre20060603-r1 I cannot play DVDs with kaffeine anymore.
The problem looks like this:

gamemaster@breakmygentoo:~> ls -l /dev/dvd
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 15. Jun 11:47 /dev/dvd -> sr2
gamemaster@breakmygentoo:~> kaffeine
QLayout "unnamed" added to QWidget "unnamed", which already has a layout
gamemaster@breakmygentoo:~> #libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 1.1.2 from http://xine.sf.net
libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.9 for DVD access
libdvdread: Attempting to use device /dev/rd/c0d0p1 mounted on / for CSS authentication
libdvdread: Could not open /dev/rd/c0d0p1 with libdvdcss.
libdvdread: Can't open /dev/rd/c0d0p1 for reading
KCrash: Application 'kaffeine' crashing...
KCrash cannot reach kdeinit, launching directly.

The same happens on my laptop with the only difference that the dvd-device there is /dev/hdc and kaffeine tries to acces /dev/hda5 which is my /-partition on the laptop.
Of cource kaffeine is configured correctly on both machines. A downgrade to xine-lib-1.1.2_pre20060328-r11 solves the problem and I can access DVDs again.

Reopen with emerge --info output and a backtrace. Thanks.

kaffeine_crash_backtrace.txt

backtrace from kcrashhandler (I wasn't able to do the bt with gdb alone).
I recompiled xine-lib-1.1.2_pre20060606-r1 and kaffeine-0.8.1 with this:
CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O1 -pipe -ggdb"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
USE="${USE} debug"
FEATURES="${FEATURES} nostrip keeptemp keepwork"

I hope this is sufficient. I don't wanna recompile x11-libs/qt with debug enabled.

this is my emerge --info without debug enabled. In this constellation I stumbled about this error the first time.

Comment 5 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-15 07:25:46 UTC
Thanks for the backtrace and the report. The problem is in the support for playing unencrypted DVDs in latest xine-lib CVS. I've found the problem and now I'm preparing the new patchset and committing the fix upstream :)
Soon -r2 will fix the problem.
Comment 6 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-15 08:49:07 UTC
Committed fixed -r2 now.
