Description jieryn 2006-06-14 15:50:04 UTC
emerge of alsa-driver and nvidia-kernel will go into the wrong directory. please review the attachments of:

  # ls /usr/src
  # uname -a
  # emerge nvidia-kernel
  # emerge --info

note that even though I have the symlink to 2.6.16.20 it installs into 2.6.17-rc6. also note that the ebuild LOOKS like it detects the proper symlink, but still installs into the wrong directory..

I consider this a portage bug. I had an old version of nvidia-kernel binary built for a previous kernel revision, and EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS="--usepkg" ... Emerge definitely suggested that it would install into the NEW kernel version, but it did not. I have now lost several hours of my life, never to be found again.. :-/
