The latest ebuild for net-misc/vpnc includes the command "dodir /var/run/vpnc" to create an empty run directory for the program.  However, since it is empty, the directory gets deleted by portage at the "unmerging old version" stage and is never available for use.

Changing the command to "keepdir /var/run/vpnc" seems to fix the problem.
