The patch in bug #135314 fixes this for me.
That patch fixes nothing more than a source code bug. This seems to be a bug in the ebuild or in the Makefile, maybe? A report to the original developers would be more effective, wouldn't it?

adding ;true to the end of the relevant cp line in the Makefile allows it to continue. the priv directory seems to be where SDL dlls go when compiling in windows.
