Description Robert Eckhoff 2006-06-08 22:58:53 UTC
Automake fails when emerging gtk+ 2.8.18.

Reproducible: Always

Notes:
I have received the error of unable to find config.sub or config.guess before, I'm wondering what might cause this problem. Also, I am not currently using my portage overlay for any packages. (It was only intermittently being used to test out a kernel patch, I'm currently using stock ck sources.)

Attached are the following. The error, the output of /var/tmp/portage/gtk+-2.8.18/temp/automake-1495.out, the entire build message, and finally emerge --info.

------------------------------Here's the error:

 * Running automake --add-missing --copy ...                                                [ !! ]

Post the output of emerge -pv coreutils, please.

# emerge -pv coreutils

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Also, I would like to note that I have the same exact automake error when trying to emerge gtk+ 2.8.12.

There's no need to CC yourself if you reported the bug.
Comment 5 Robert Eckhoff 2006-06-09 03:25:33 UTC
The output from autoheader seems to give a warning. Even though I think this warning is unrelated to my error I will post it. I did not find any more log information in this folder.

Comment 6 Robert Eckhoff 2006-06-09 04:00:54 UTC
It appears that both /usr/share/gnuconfig/config.sub and /usr/share/gnuconfig/config.guess went missing. These are the files that libtoolize links or copies, so that they are available for automake. This disappearance is rather mysterious. I don't touch these files, except through emerge. Some ebuild must have done something to delete these files. I don't have any clue which at this point. These files seem to be owned by "sys-devel/gnuconfig", a re-emerge of gnuconfig fixed my problem.

Whether this bug should be kept new and/or reassigned, so that the possible problem of some ebuild borking gnuconfig stays as a bug I'll leave to you gentoo guys. Otherwise, my problem is fixed.
