Description frilled 2006-06-07 15:15:45 UTC
Since it went stable I have mozilla-thunderbird-1.5.0.4 (x86) on three boxes behaving way beyond nice. Often enough, switching to the application (usually switching virtual desktops) gives me about 5-15 seconds of 100% CPU time during which thunderbird is unresponsive. It usually manages to get back alive, but it didn't exhibit this behaviour in 1.0.x days, and it does not matter what it does (sit idle, connect to IMAP server, connect to POP3 server, show compose window).

I'm running either KDE 3.5.2|3 or XFCE4 stable with CFLAGS=-march=pentium4 -O2 -pipe.

Details on demand. Just checking whether I'm b0rked (but it's three boxes, so I'd be a little surprised) or anybody else got it, too.

I have the same promblem, also when the window redraw it cause a visual glitch. The subject bar grow to it's maximum then all the header for the message windows become all of minimum size, and after some time all return to normal size. Also with the extension world weather, the image in the frame is shifted to the right of frame until the progress bar can't go further. Also it seem to put my cpu at #00% load.

illustration of the bug

I've try the new version 1.5.0.5 the CPU problem seem fixed. But I still have the problem with the subject/sender/date/junk/read header. At startup the bar change size and is not usefull. It go to the 2 extremum : minimum size or the subject header expand so much it's push other header out of the window so I cannot select to classify message by date or any other way. Also the search window expand and seem to fall to nowhere As you can see on the attach picture. For reading message when that bug happen it dosn't seem to wrap text correctly so part of it is not visible except for the beginning of a line. It seem like the windows parameter are expanded and not reajusted to it's true size. After a few minute the text and search box return to normal but not the header section. Anyway returning to 1.0.7 until that bug is fixed.

Going back to the 1.0 branch puts you in a bad situation, security-wise (try glsa-check).

Besides that, 1.5.0.5 seems to play nicer (different problems, though), but since doesn't seem to be a common problem, I'll just close the bug.

André, feel free to open a new bug with your specific problem.
