Description hodak 2006-06-07 00:08:09 UTC
Since upgrading to Firefox 1.5.0.4 (since it became stable) I cannot open second instance of the browser. First works fine. When trying to open second I get:

$firefox
/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/mozilla-xremote-client: Error: Failed to send command: 500 command not parseable
Browser doesn't understand command

I am really not sure what the error message means.

Interstingly, specifying display "firefox -display :0" I am able to open as many
firefox instances as I want. But I still think that new instance should be opened without specifying display.

My firefox USE flags:
[ebuild R ] www-client/mozilla-firefox-1.5.0.4 -debug +gnome +ipv6 +java -mozdevelop -xinerama -xprint 0 kB

Please reopen if you can reproduce with 1.5.0.9.
Comment 2 hodak 2006-12-23 11:33:28 UTC
I see the same with 1.5.0.9, reopening.

Works for me, do you have MOZILLA_NEWTYPE set?

Yes, I had this setup, after removing it, everything works as it should.
You can close this bug then, I would just like to know why MOZILLA_NEWTYPE would cause error like that.

I can confirm this behavior, but cannot find where I set the MOZILLA_NEWTYPE variable, as this was years ago that it was set. Any pointers on where to look?
Comment 6 Christian Marie (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-01-08 16:51:25 UTC
The issue is upstream. Basically the problem is that openURL with an empty or not entirely valid URL explodes, with that vauge message.
Resolving.
