Since upgrading to Firefox 1.5.0.4 (since it became stable) I cannot open second instance of the browser. First works fine. When trying to open second I get: $firefox /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/mozilla-xremote-client: Error: Failed to send command: 500 command not parseable Browser doesn't understand command I am really not sure what the error message means. Interstingly, specifying display "firefox -display :0" I am able to open as many firefox instances as I want. But I still think that new instance should be opened without specifying display. I see the same with 1.5.0.9, reopening. $firefox /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/mozilla-xremote-client: Error: Failed to send command: 500 command not parseable Browser doesn't understand command
Works for me, do you have MOZILLA_NEWTYPE set?
(In reply to comment #3) > Works for me, do you have MOZILLA_NEWTYPE set? > Yes, I had this setup, after removing it, everything works as it should. You can close this bug then, I would just like to know why MOZILLA_NEWTYPE would cause error like that.

Any pointers on where to look?
The issue is upstream. Basically the problem is that openURL with an empty or not entirely valid URL explodes, with that vauge message. Resolving.
