Description Paulo 2006-06-05 15:16:50 UTC
I will attach a screenshot to show what I mean. I had Gentoo 2006.0 with GCC 4.1.1 and Glibc 2.4 up and running when I decided to install gensplash and enable it. It works smoothly, except for the fact that whenever I turn on the computer, it will always behave as the screenshot shows. Actually, it first shows the desktop as it should, and then will draw that piece of my splashscreen on the border of the screen. My KDM is set up to automatically log in with my username.

Here's emerge --info:

I'm not sure which software causes this, I do see this problem on PPC with gensplash and radeon driver, but not only with KDE.

CCing x11 for possibly relation to driver, CCing spock for possible relation with gensplash.
Comment 3 Paulo 2006-06-05 15:38:54 UTC
I forgot to say that I'm using Mesa-CVS driver for my radeon, as explained at http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-374745-postdays-0-postorder-asc-highlight-radeon+dri-start-0.html
Comment 4 Joshua Baergen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-05 20:44:24 UTC
Which framebuffer driver are you using?
Comment 5 Paulo 2006-06-06 08:37:33 UTC
Radeonfb... This rings a bell... I'll try another today and say whether it solves the problem...
Comment 6 Paulo 2006-06-07 07:42:50 UTC
Now I changed it to boot using vesafb, and it won't mess up with my KDE, but won't show the background on the terminals either... It'll only change the terminal's resolution to 1280x1024 as radeonfb did. Just the eye candy is missing, and I don't know whether it's the splash's background fault or radeonfb's fault...
Comment 7 Joshua Baergen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-11 09:18:43 UTC
Make sure your gensplash/fb kernel options are correct now with the changes.
Comment 8 Carsten Lohrke (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-12 14:50:35 UTC
Reassigning as it is not a KDE issue.
Comment 9 Joshua Baergen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-12 20:24:36 UTC
This bug is resolved. I haven't touched the framebuffer stuff in a long time, but the forums or gensplash guides would be good places to look.
