Description Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-04 09:03:13 UTC
Hi

it is useful to have the backends ebuild only build needed backends.
An ebuild for this is available at
http://git.flameeyes.is-a-geek.org/?p=overlay.git;a=blob;f=media-gfx/sane-backends/sane-backends-1.0.17.ebuild

Please add it to the live portage tree, so all users can take advantage of it :)

Diego, it looks like you're quite busy working on sane-backends. Would you perhaps like to maintain it?
Comment 2 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-06 02:06:24 UTC
is there a herd for sane-backends? Maybe we can all just work together ..
Comment 3 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-06 02:17:18 UTC
(Note that the url now does not work anymore as I replaced gitweb with gitarella, the new one is http://git.flameeyes.is-a-geek.org/overlay/media-gfx/sane-backends/sane-backends-1.0.17.ebuild )

I still have the scanner offline right now and I'm forced to restart the laptop in OSX to be able to use it, as I got again problem with firmware loading (seems like after an udev update, unfortunately both the G/FreeBSD boxes I have here have only USB 1.1 so no way for my scanner), so I don't think I can do much about it, not until I get it to work again, a part ebuild and build testing.

I've made an start to split off the sane-backends package into several ones (ie. one for libsanei, one for libsane and one per backend) quite some time ago. Help would be very appreciated :)

Somehow I fail to see the advantage. Could you elaborate on this?

obviously no one likes to commit this, people with flameeyes overlay will get it, others not.
