(In reply to comment #6) > Still fails here, with kdelibs-3.5.4-r1. > > Since it looks like this is an upstream issue and we're nog going to fix it, > any chance of getting RESTRICT="test" into the ebuild? Please, don't do that. If you don't want tests to be run for one particular package then create your own ebuild in your portage overlay and add that clause, but don't remove tests in general since some people prefer to not install a package rather than installing it without a "test-compliance" assurance.
Yes, and some of us prefer to have merges finish without having to alter ebuilds in the middle of it. I don't think that's too much to ask. :/ It seems like it would make sense here to add FEATURES="test-strict", or something along those lines, which would run all tests regardless of package restrictions. There ought to be some division between "wanting to test ALL packages" and "wanting to test all packages where the tests are expected to pass". This seems like it would be easy enough to implement.
(In reply to comment #9) > Yes, and some of us prefer to have merges finish without having to alter > ebuilds in the middle of it. I don't think that's too much to ask. :/ You don't think so? Well, let's talk about it: your option implies changing the main ebuild globally and for everyone and then changing it again locally for those who don't want tests to be by-passed; my option implies modifying the ebuild only locally for those who don't want *that particular package's test* to be run (if someone's messing around this with problem it's because they enabled "test" in FEATURES). That is, your option implies two modifications and mine only one... I don't know whether you are asking too much or aren't, but mathemathically you're asking more than me. What's more, your arguing came since you don't want to modify ebuilds in the middle of an installation, but if you add the RESTRICT clause and I've instructed portage to stop when that happens, it'll be me who'll have to do it... Transfering the problem from ones to others isn't a solution.
Carsten: Still fails for me with kdelibs-3.5.4-r2. (In reply to comment #11) > Abraham: While that's true, I still think it'd be a good thing for portage to > distinguish somehow between packages that fail tests when they're expected to > pass (indicates a bad build), and packages that aren't expected to pass. What you say is reasonable and I would agree if some constraints were met; if we can distinguish between tests that are expected or unexpected to pass, that means we know the reason by which the test is failing. If a test isn't expected to pass because it has a *known* bug, why not fixing it instead of removing the test at all? I know that depends on upstream most of the times and the original test cannot be changed so easily (or we have to wait till the fix is released), but still it can be patched. So, if some test fails, it should be found out whether its failure is expected or unexpected. If the former, we know the bug, so it should be fixed. If not possible, then it should be patched. And if some test fails, the reason is known and neither the fix nor the patch are possible, then (and only then) restrict the test. At least that's my opinion. BTW, I also tried with 3.5.4-r2 and tests didn't work either, although the error seems to be different /bin/sh ../../../libtool --silent --tag=CXX --mode=link i686-pc-linux-gnu-g++ -Wno-long-long -Wundef -ansi -D_XOPEN_SOURCE=500 -D_BSD_SOURCE -Wcast-align -Wconversion -Wchar-subscripts -Wall -W -Wpointer-arith -DNDEBUG -DNO_DEBUG -O2 -O2 -pipe -march=athlon-xp -Wformat-security -Wmissing-format-attribute -Wno-non-virtual-dtor -fno-exceptions -fno-check-new -fno-common -DQT_CLEAN_NAMESPACE -DQT_NO_ASCII_CAST -DQT_NO_STL -DQT_NO_COMPAT -DQT_NO_TRANSLATION -o kunittest_kconfigcompiler_test.la -module -avoid-version -module -no-undefined -Wl,--no-undefined -Wl,--allow-shlib-undefined -R /usr/kde/3.5/lib -R /usr/kde/3.5/lib -R /usr/qt/3/lib -R /usr/lib -rpath /usr/kde/3.5/lib -L/usr/kde/3.5/lib -L/usr/qt/3/lib -L/usr/lib kconfigcompiler_test.lo -lkunittest /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.6/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lkunittest collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[4]: *** [kunittest_kconfigcompiler_test.la] Error 1 make[4]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdelibs-3.5.4-r2/work/kdelibs-3.5.4/kdecore/kconfig_compiler/tests' make[3]: *** [check-am] Error 2 make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdelibs-3.5.4-r2/work/kdelibs-3.5.4/kdecore/kconfig_compiler/tests' make[2]: *** [check-recursive] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdelibs-3.5.4-r2/work/kdelibs-3.5.4/kdecore/kconfig_compiler' make[1]: *** [check-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/kdelibs-3.5.4-r2/work/kdelibs-3.5.4/kdecore' make: *** [check-recursive] Error 1 !!! I'll try revdep-rebuild and tell.
Is this still a problem with kdelib-3.5.6? Have you submitted it upstream?
kdelibs tests are disabled since a while now. If you're keen on having them run, comment out RESTRICT="test" in the ebuild and file a bug upstream.
