Gaim configure script seems to have problems with version x.y.z with (z > 9) I guess. # glib-config --version 1.2.10 # emerge gaim ... checking for GLIB - version >= 1.2.5... no *** Could not run GLIB test program, checking why... *** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the *** exact error that occured. This usually means GLIB was incorrectly installed *** or that you have moved GLIB since it was installed. In the latter case, you *** may want to edit the glib-config script: /usr/bin/glib-config configure: error: *** GLib is required to build Gaim; please make sure you have the GLib *** development headers installed. The latest version of GLib is *** always available at http://www.gtk.org/. !!! ERROR: net-im/gaim-0.59.8 failed. !!! Function econf, Line 281, Exitcode 1 !!! econf failed
please post the config.log file in your /var/tmp/portage/gaim-0.59.8/work/ directory

In addittion to the compile problem I also get this error when trying to run gaim gaim: relocation error: gaim: undefined symbol: perl_eval_pv Other versions of gaim do not compile as well.
run this and show us the output: `qpkg -l glib`

should be fixed in cvs http://cvs.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/gentoo-x86/net-im/gaim/gaim-0.59.8-r1.ebuild.diff?r1=1.1&r2=1.2
