I do dual boot: Gentoo and Windows My hardware (bios) clock is set to local time. My /etc/localtime is a symbolic link to /usr/share/zoneinfo/Canada/Eastern In my /etc/conf.d/clock, I have: CLOCK="local" CLOCK_SYSTOHC="no" I have ntp-client running on default runlevel Each time I boot, I have this message: One of the files in /etc/{conf.d,init.d} or /etc/rc.conf" has a modification time in the future!" Strange: I am able to see this warning if I use gensplash and I press F2 to see the verbose mode. If I don't use gensplash, I don't see the warning. The problem coming from the modification times of /etc /sys and /proc which are set to the time of boot minus 4 hours. It seems that /etc/init.d/clock thinks that my hardware clock is set to UTC. After the booting process my system time is corrected ( but not the modification time of /etc /sys and /proc. I am using baselayout-1.12.0-r1. # emerge --info Portage 2.0.54-r2 (default-linux/amd64/2006.0, gcc-3.4.5, glibc-2.3.6-r3, 2.6.16-gentoo-r7 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.16-gentoo-r7 x86_64 AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-30 Gentoo Base System version 1.12.0 ccache version 2.3 [enabled] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5-r2, 2.4.2 dev-python/pycrypto: [Not Present] dev-util/ccache: 2.3 dev-util/confcache: [Not Present] sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r2 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=k8 -pipe" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/splash /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=k8 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig ccache distlocks fixpackages sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://adelie.polymtl.ca http://gentoo.mirrored.ca" LANG="fr_CA.UTF-8" LC_ALL="fr_CA.UTF-8" LINGUAS="fr" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.ca.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="amd64 X aac acpi alsa arts audiofile avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bzip2 cdparanoia cdr cli crypt cups curl dri dvd dvdr dvdread eds emboss encode esd exif expat fam ffmpeg foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gimpprint glut gmp gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 hal idn imagemagick imlib ipv6 isdnlog java jpeg junit kde lcms lirc lzw lzw-tiff mad mng mp3 mpeg ncurses nls nptl ogg opengl oss pam pcre pdflib perl png ppds pppd python qt quicktime readline reflection sdl session spell spl ssl tcltk tcpd tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev unicode usb userlocales vorbis wmf xine xml2 xmms xorg xpm xv xvid zlib linguas_fr userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: CTARGET, INSTALL_MASK, LDFLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS
I've put a patch into our SVN which touches each file with a future mtime found in depscan.sh which should fix this issue. Will be in baselayout-1.12.1
Fixed in baselayout-1.12.1
I updated to baselayout-1.12.1, but I still have the same problem. I ran dispatch-conf and I had only 4 files to update: /etc/init.d/net.lo /etc/init.d/localmount /etc/conf.d/net.exemple /etc/conf.d/env_whitelist
What version of e2fsprogs do you have installed?
(In reply to comment #4) > What version of e2fsprogs do you have installed? > e2fsprogs-1.39
If you roll back to 1.38-r1 does the problem disappear? (may require an extra reboot)
(In reply to comment #6) > If you roll back to 1.38-r1 does the problem disappear? (may require an extra > reboot) > As suggested, I downgrade to 1.38-r1 (with dependencies) but after a reboot, the problem persist.
this bug started before e2fsprogs 1.39 was in the tree
This should be fixed in baselayout-1.13.0_alpha11
