emerge depclean remove libcap revdep-rebuild recompile net-misc/ntp-4.2.0.20040617-r3 etc-update suggest to modify /etc/conf.d/ntpd by : NTPD_OPTS="-u ntp:ntp" to NTPD_OPTS="" I keep the older, but, ntp doesn't start anymore. I have to remove "-u ntp:ntp" to make it working. I tried to emerge libcap, and compile again ntp, but same thing. what can do that ? # emerge -pv ntp These are the packages that I would merge, in order: Calculating dependencies ...done! [ebuild R ] net-misc/ntp-4.2.0.20040617-r3 -caps -debug +ipv6 -logrotate -openntpd -parse-clocks (-selinux) +ssl 0 kB
Your kernel configuration. See /var/log/messages. This is not a support forum, please ask questions on forums.gentoo.org or IRC (#gentoo).
Sorry, but when a configuration works, and I just revdep-rebuild, and it doesn't work anymore, on 5 PCs, and there is no message in /var/log/message, I can think there is something not very normal. I'll go to forums.
In fact, this is due to USE "caps" which is not default, and not kernel configuration. I can't understand how an ebuild can have its USE change without changing version.

You don't want to try to understand what I mean. Never mind. I give up.
