Description Darin 2006-05-27 19:08:21 UTC
When upgrading to modular xorg, then downgrading back to xorg-6.8, the modular xorg /usr/lib/xorg/modules stays while /usr/lib/modules is all but empty. Since xorg-6.8 looks in /usr/lib/modules for drivers (nvidia and glx in my case) and whatnot, it finds nothing and won't start. Copying /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers to /usr/lib/xorg/drivers allows X to run, but glx still isn't found. I haven't tried copying the entire directory over yet, and will do that later. I'm not sure if this is even a bug and or for that matter something that can be easily fixed, but I'm in over my head and figured I should try something.
Thanks.

Did you re-merge the nvidia drivers after downgrading? This is a must for the drivers to show up in that directory.

I recall re-merging the drivers a few times, but just to be sure I could try upgrading and downgrading again, then re-emerging nvidia-glx? I'd rather not, but it'll only take some extra time, now that I know the temp fix.

Nah, don't worry about it. I'm quite sure that would fix the problem.

I'll mark this INVALID for now since the fix is currently user-side.

well it broke xorg to me too, so I am working since june on Shitdowz :/ Upgraded to 7.0 stable, didnt worked some NVIDIA(0): WAIT problems so couldnt get 3d support to work, and then downgrade to 6.8.2 and the same thingy. Had reemerged drivers, unmerged all xorg packages. Still couldnt get it to work :/
