Description Tiago 2006-05-27 11:15:01 UTC
Hi,

Just emerged KDE 3.5.2, and kopete crashes (with SIGSEGV) when I select the 'Devices' tab in the configuration dialog.

How to reproduce:

1. Start Kopete
2. On main window go to menu Settings -> Configure -> Devices
3. Crash

My debugging steps so far:

a) Start kopete in the console and see the output. Nothing too relevant before the crash:

tjgq@trillian:~$ kopete
tjgq@trillian:~$ QDateTime::fromString: Parameter out of range
QDateTime::fromString: Parameter out of range
QDateTime::fromString: Parameter out of range
QDateTime::fromString: Parameter out of range
QDateTime::fromString: Parameter out of range
QDateTime::fromString: Parameter out of range
QDateTime::fromString: Parameter out of range
QDateTime::fromString: Parameter out of range
QDateTime::fromString: Parameter out of range
QDateTime::fromString: Parameter out of range
KCrash: Application 'kopete' crashing...

b) Run with strace (with -f argument since it forks a child via clone() and that's where the segfault occurs). The output is rather long, I'll make it an attachment. I could paste just the few last lines but then I could miss something relevant :)

c) Check the backtrace (I'm attaching it also). I can't see anything suspicious and the lack of debugging symbols doesn't help. Do you think it'd be worthwile to compile it with debugging symbols? I could do that.

Finally, my emerge --info :

tjgq@trillian:~$ emerge --info

strace output

I ended up including only the last lines since it was too long.
Comment 4 Darren Worrall 2006-05-28 15:13:23 UTC
I am experiencing the same thing with my system. However, if I start 'gqcam' before hand and view the video stream, kopete will no longer freeze for the remainder of that session. Rebooting, and then not starting gqcam first causes the freeze again.

Cheers,

Darren

Please report upstream if it's still an issue.
