Description Drake Wyrm 2006-05-26 13:11:51 UTC
While attempting to update my system today, I found that the latest stable version of gnupg fails to pass one of its self-tests.

The attempted build was:

[ebuild NS ] app-crypt/gnupg-1.9.20-r3 +X -caps -gpg2-experimental +ldap +nls (-selinux) -smartcard 0 kB

Potentially relevant `emerge --info`:

Comment 1 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-05-26 14:09:39 UTC
Please try to recompile libksba. It worked for me after that.
Comment 2 Daniel Black (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-05-26 20:32:01 UTC
Stefan did the change in dependency fix this?
Comment 3 Philipp Riegger 2006-05-28 10:26:19 UTC
rebuilding libksba did not solve this for me.
Comment 4 Arvid Norlander 2006-06-03 12:37:31 UTC
I have the same problem. It was not solved by rebuilding libksba.

Did not help to solve the problem here (too).

you are all using stable, right?
I need more emerge infos, need to find out something common
right now even I cannot reproduce it :(

By the way, in the error message it is said to inform gnupg developers, should we inform them directly or does Bugzilla staff do it?
Comment 9 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-06-11 13:29:25 UTC
seems some package in stable is causing gnupg-1.9 to misbehave, I do not know which package that is though ..

the following packages in gnupgs rrdeps have different ~arch then arch versions.
net-nds/openldap
net-misc/curl
dev-libs/pth
dev-libs/libgpg-error

just a shot: can you please try the following:
echo dev-libs/libgpg-error >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
emerge -va1 dev-libs/libgpg-error dev-libs/libksba app-crypt/gnupg

I just tried that and still the same result. That updated libgpg-error, but replaced libksba and gnupg (no version change).
Comment 11 Drake Wyrm 2006-06-12 05:53:25 UTC
No luck with the upgraded libgpg-error package. I also tried upgrading dev-libs/pth, but that didn't help either. The tempermental test in app-crypt/gnupg-1.9.20-r3 still fails with the following sets of pre-reqs:

net-nds/openldap-2.3.24-r1 USE="berkdb crypt gdbm ipv6 perl readline ssl tcpd -debug -kerberos -minimal -odbc -overlays -samba -sasl -slp"
net-misc/curl-7.15.1-r1 USE="ipv6 ldap ssl -ares -gnutls -idn -kerberos -krb4 -test"
dev-libs/pth-1.4.0
dev-libs/libgpg-error-1.1 USE="nls"
dev-libs/libksba-0.9.14

net-nds/openldap-2.3.24-r1 USE="berkdb crypt gdbm ipv6 perl readline ssl tcpd -debug -kerberos -minimal -odbc -overlays -samba -sasl -slp"
net-misc/curl-7.15.1-r1 USE="ipv6 ldap ssl -ares -gnutls -idn -kerberos -krb4 -test"
dev-libs/pth-2.0.6
dev-libs/libgpg-error-1.1 USE="nls"
dev-libs/libksba-0.9.14

log of failing test case in verbose mode

with ./runtest modified to have '--verbose' instead of '--no-echo'.
In 'info gpgsm', see Invoking GPGSM::GPGSM Protocol:: and Assuan:: for details on the protocol.

I think the key is the "gpgsm: no signature value available" reported to stderr, after the VERIFY command; the second test (sm-verify) gets:

Downgrading libksba from 0.9.14 to 0.9.13 makes the test pass again for both gnupg-1.9.20-r3 and -r4.

Reproduced here. Maybe a <libksba-0.9.14 dependency should be added for gnupg-1.9.20?
Comment 18 Drake Wyrm 2006-06-18 00:27:52 UTC
No dice downgrading libksba, either. I tested the following combinations (three weeks ago; maybe I should have posted this earlier) with the indicated results. Some of these were not expected to pass; libassuan-0.6.10 is required, but I noted that the error was related to that library, so I gave it a shot.

libksba libassuan gnupg result
0.9.6 0.6.10 1.9.20-r3 failed two tests
0.9.11 0.6.10 1.9.20-r3 failed one test
0.9.13 0.6.10 1.9.20-r3 failed one test
0.9.14 0.6.10 1.9.20-r3 failed one test
0.9.6 0.6.9 1.9.20-r3 failed at configure
0.9.14 0.6.9 1.9.20-r3 failed at configure

Downgrading helped on my machine too.

If libksba-0.9.15 is needed, should it not be in the DEPEND list, rather than 0.9.13?

when libksba-0.9.15 is stable on the various arches, then i can change the dependancy of gnupg-1.9.20*
