I would like to suggest that eix should be covered (or at least mentioned) in the Gentoo handbook. I think eix really does a great job at improving the usability of portage and hence I think every new Gentoo user (who reads the handbook) should know about. My suggestion would be that it should be mentioned in "A Portage Introduction" [1] and perhaps covered more throughly in "Additional Portage Tools" [2], however, any kind of inclusion of eix in official Gentoo documentation would be an improvement IMHO. (In reply to comment #0) I wouldn't mention in the Portage handbook itself; that is only about official Gentoo-provided tools that come automatically installed with your base system. While eix is handy, its usage is out of place in the Portage handbook. We do, however, maintain a separate portage-utils guide[1]; portage-utils is a set of official portage utilities very similar to eix. We'd be happy to see any eix guide/introduction (doesn't have to be that long, you know) you might want to contribute. :) [1] http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/portage-utils.xml
Closing for reasons specified above. If you ever make an eix guide, feel free to attach it to a new bug. :)
