Hi, There has been a new release. About: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_1.0-8762.html Readme: http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-8762/README/chapter-03.html I bought an nvidia 6800 XT recently. Once fitted a reboot gave me an X hang. Single flat panel worked but twinview caused an irrecoverable hang after which a reboot was necessary try another config variation. Eventually it turned out there was nothing wrong with my X config but in fact the card was too new and required the new nvidia driver that was only released yesterday. Quoted from the new release that fixed my issues (in brackets my comments): * Fixed a system crash starting X with TwinView on certain GPUs (main one). * Fixed several issues with mode selection for CRTs and DFPs (possibly useful too). I renamed the ebuilds for nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx to the new version, generated digests and installed them and then finally I was able to get X running. So I would say this particular update should go into ~branches fairly quickly as trying different X configurations, log checking and debugging can waste quite a lot of time as I discovered :) Thanks.

Just use portage overlay until some preliminary testings of this release has been done (you can copy your actual ebuild into portage overlay, for example).
Just to clarify I already have my new nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx installed so I'm in no rush to get these in my next emerge sync. However it is important to note that this is an essential version for anyone with a newer GPU if using twinview as mentioned in nvidia changelog and could potentially save them a lot of time debugging their X config in vain. However I understand that testing must be done. Take your time.
Done. Enjoy the new version.
Brilliant. Thanks.
