This appears to have been fixed about a month ago. I just refetched the tarball and confirmed. I suggest you delete the tarball in /usr/portage/distfiles/, resync and redownload.

The digest is still broken for me. I've synced yesterday and also today. 
After fetching the file from http://xorg.freedesktop.org/releases/individual/app/appres-1.0.0.tar.bz2, "emerge -1 appres" says:

same digest error here.   appres downloaded here today as a new dep of xscreensaver.

OK, attempted to fix again. New MD5 is 4e03ac5f315213d5c70d603fc92cb0a1.
