Standard make.conf.example includes information on PORTAGE_TMPFS variable. Investigation in the forums indicates this variable is no longer used. Please consider removing it from the example. Regards, Harvey
(In reply to comment #0) > this variable is no longer used. That is incorrect. PORTAGE_TMPFS is currently used as a temporary file location to pass metadata between ebuild.sh and the python side of portage (via "$PORTAGE_TMPFS/aux_db_key_temp").
Thanks Zac. The forum post I referenced is: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-397684.html I figured that since it doesn't reveal itself in emerge --info, and that the developer said it wasn't in use, that it was no longer used. Is there any tangible benefit to adding this variable to make.conf then?
(In reply to comment #2) > Is there any tangible benefit to adding this variable to make.conf then? For it's current use as aux_db_key_temp there is very little benefit. However, I don't think it necessarily hurts to have the example. If we need the tmpfs for something in the future, the user can have that variable ready and waiting.
I don't think it's necessary for --info output.
