"Important: Metalog flushes output to the disk in blocks, so messages aren't immediately recorded into the system logs. [...] you can send metalog a USR1 signal to temporarily turn off this message buffering [...]" Consider adding "You can turn off the buffering feature entirely by editing /etc/conf.d/metalog, if you wish." Not many people know about that, but it has come in quite handy for many, knowing that you can tail -f /var/log/... without worrying about what state metalog is in. (Also, I assigned it to zhen, because you fielded my last complaint about the install docs.)
What would you add to /etc/conf.d/metalog in order to disable buffering? Cheers, //zhen
shell # cat /etc/conf.d/metalog # Config file for /etc/init.d/metalog # Add '-s' if you dont want buffering. (See things realtime) METALOG_OPTS="-B" -- METALOG_OPTS would be changed to "-B -s".
Excellent, I will add this in.
