I have added two extra dialogs to net-setup, which detail the network devices available and the one being configured. This should help users who get confused when the ethX numbering does not match that of a 'real' system. Here are some screenshots: http://dev.gentoo.org/~dsd/net-setup-1.gif http://dev.gentoo.org/~dsd/net-setup-2.gif

Just curious, but have you tested this on a 2.4 kernel to make sure it doesn't vomit all over the screen?
Nevermind, I see that you hide the errors. Is there any way that we could do this in a way that also works on 2.4, then? Some architectures, specifically alpha and sparc, still ship a 2.4 kernel on thei CD, and I would like for things to be consistent across architectures.
Not that I can think of - this is exactly the kind of thing that sysfs was designed for. The current version won't break on 2.4, it just won't display the extra info.
