the autoconf stuff seems not to touch the stuff in ext/* where the bindings for other stuff are

Uhm, the use flags are bogus, a.k.a. don't do anything useful at all. It's not allowed to  utilize use flags like this.

Your ebuild will only work for USE="python" :(

syck-0.55-r1 is now in cvs (only does ruby/php/python for now -- if anyone needs the other two [they don't even appear in the readme], reopen the bug)
