Description Charles N. Burns 2003-01-06 17:59:13 UTC
This bug has been known for a while, but I have reported it here because I could
not find it in Bugzilla. See the URL for a thread about the problem.

Essentially, OpenOffice "seems to" run itself (or parts of itself) at an
extremely low priority. When it must share with another process, such as a build
or something like SETI@Home, even the simplest operations such as opening a drop
menu are slower than a dead slug stuck in frozen molasses.
The nice value of OpenOffice and of other processes does not seem to have any
effect.
Top shows nothing unusual:
17358 siva 15 0 38664 37M 31728 R 0.0 7.5 0:07 soffice.bin

This happens both with precompiled and user compiled installations.

i'm not really sure what to say man, OpenOffice is a big big program with about
a gagillion components...

This is not just on gentoo, it happens on all other systems as well...if you
want to submit something to openoffice.orgs issuezilla, go ahead, but i'm going
to mark this as invalid becuase i don't think its something i can fix....

if you find a patch, please reopen this bug, or submit a new one under the same
name =) I'll be more than happy to apply it
