Description Luca 2006-05-18 07:20:59 UTC
The following lines are part of the output when I invoke the dmesg command:
   Fusion MPT SAS Host driver 3.03.04
   GSI 20 sharing vector 0xD1 and IRQ 20
   ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:86:01.0[A] -> GSI 32 (level, low) -> IRQ 20
   mptbase: Initiating ioc0 bringup
   ioc0: SAS1068: Capabilities={Initiator}
   input: PC Speaker as /class/input/input2
   fbsplash: console 0 using theme 'default'
   fbsplash: switched splash state to 'on' on console 0
   mptbase: ioc0: ERROR - Doorbell INT timeout (count=299999), IntStatus=0!
   mptbase: ioc0: ERROR - Handshake reply failure!
   mptbase: ioc0: ERROR - Sending PortEnable failed(-1)!
   mptbase: WARNING - ioc0 did not initialize properly! (-4)
   mptsas: probe of 0000:86:01.0 failed with error -4

Obviously, the result is that the hard drives attached to this card do not show up when I try to set partitions and format. I have been trying to contact LSI Logic for over a week now, and they have been very reluctant to help. I figured that I should just ask the experts, and forget about the manufacturer. This does not appear at all to be an issue with Gentoo, but maybe there is a way to insert a newer driver and/or kernel into the boot cd. Oh, by the way, here is the output from lspci:

This is not an Installer bug...
Comment 2 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-11 07:24:22 UTC
Is this a separate card or on-board? What machine is it? Sun? "White box"?
Comment 3 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-09-01 15:18:44 UTC
Please try the 2006.1 release media. It worked perfectly for me.
Comment 4 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-01-08 21:39:28 UTC
I'm guessing that this worked?

If not, feel free to REOPEN.
