This seems to be fixed already in freeglut-2.4.0.
2.4 has been around for more than 10 months now, and it also fixes some problems.

I will add a blocker to ensure this isn't an issue -- I pulled a !virtual/glut blocker a while back because that broke on the new-style virtual.
