Description thava prahash 2003-01-05 23:51:43 UTC
I have Acer Travelmate 420 laptop. Using the basic cd, the system hangs upon
booting when checking for scsi devices. Overcome this with noscsi option. It
then hangs while probing for network devices. It has eepro10 eth0. this is
overcomed by nonet option.
the system hangs on grub while probing for devices using bios. If the module
is compiled using make bzlilo, the system loops at kmod error after reboot.

Cheers

I retried Gentoo 1.4rc2 allover again and it worked this time without the
previous problem. The difference that i see(if i'm not mistaken) was that that
the earliar attempt resulted in kernel 2.4.20 and the current installation
resulted in kernel 2.4.19.

Is there problems with kernel 2.4.20 that may have caused the earliar problem?

Thanks for all the assistance

actually it should have used a 2.4.19 kernel on each try
