K3B cannot detect dvd+rw-format, even though that program is on the search path in k3bsetup. Under further investigation, dvd+rw-format's return strange character under different locale. As a result, K3B cannot parse the version string returned by dvd+rw-format (version 4.10). Upgrading dvd+rw-format to version 6.10 solved the problem. Particularly, the +/- character in the version string will be displayed probably.

Please note Bug #257360 : app-cdr/dvd+rw-tools-7.1 compiled with sys-devel/gcc-4.3.3 - buffer overflow when executing dvd+rw-format app-cdr/dvd+rw-tools-7.1-r1 is available as "~" already :) --- With dvd+rw-tools-7.1, even "dvd+rw-format -v" crashes: # /usr/bin/dvd+rw-format -v *** buffer overflow detected ***: /usr/bin/dvd+rw-format terminated ======= Backtrace: ========= ... --- After upgrading, "dvd+rw-format -v" works fine: # dvd+rw-format -v * BD/DVD±RW/-RAM format utility by <appro@fy.chalmers.se>, version 7.1. - usage: dvd+rw-format [-force[=full]] [-lead-out|-blank[=full]] [-ssa[=none|default|max|XXXm]] /dev/dvd --- Afterwards, starting k3b reports "no problems found". I propose to re-open/close as "WORKSFORME", until app-cdr/dvd+rw-tools-7.1-r1 becomes marked as stable. Kind regards Manfred
