Description Caleb Cushing 2006-05-10 15:31:09 UTC
I'm having problems with firefox rendering certain pages properly. Text seems to be overlapping other text in areas. as opposed to wrapping. I'm attaching a jpeg to depict the issue. I hope this isn't a configuration or an ID10T problem. but if it is I would appreciate knowing how to correct it.

Which version? Also, -bin or compiled? If compiled, can you reproduce it with -bin? Also, emerge --info needed.

Emerge info

your too fast for me jakub... lol. Sorry It's Firefox 1.5.0.3 non binary. I'll grab the binary and try it. I've attached emerge info I'm also running xorg 7 as usual it may be a result of something their but I doubt it.
Comment 4 Caleb Cushing 2006-05-10 15:43:44 UTC
still present in the binary version which I assume I'll probably be told it's upstream.

Well, pretty likely... :)

I would like to note I had this prior to 1.5.0.3 I'm just gettin around to reporting it. I doesn't show up on any pages I use frequently. In fact I wouldn't have known it happened on yahoo if my neighbor hadn't use yahoo on my computer. before that I assumed it was poor web design. It has just taken me a few weeks to file.

I have 1.5.03 binary and I don't get this problem. However, this is not a bug...the correct HTML/CSS standards state that if there is not room in the box-model for all text to display then it should overflow. This prevents information being entirely cut off due to bad webpage design. The downside, is the browser has no way of knowing which information is more important and should have a higher z-index (only 1 can be "on top" and be clickable).

I use "bad webpage design" very loosely, because mostly it's a matter of trying to hack around Internet Explorer's incorrect implementation of the box model.

Although, I noticed by running a live search for "blarg" on Yahoo myself, the Yahoo logo is supposed to be ABOVE all those links (which is probably what is causing one of the links to wrap and overlap the input box). On the screenshot you posted, it is not. Could this be the webmaster's error?

Please visit the search page again and see if the logo is displayed on top or if it's still sitting to the left, causing the text-links to overlap the input box. (Maybe it was fixed between when you and I viewed it.)

I noticed this in the -bin as well when i ran it a few minutes ago. I've seen on several pages where it's not wrapping at all... but I can't think of any at this time... no this doesn't happen on the main search page of yahoo... just after a search has been implemented. you can pick whatever search term you want. blarg is just some random crap that I think is funny to say or type it means nothing. like I said it may be configuration. difficult to determine. sometimes whether things like this are my configuration or a bug.
Comment 9 Caleb Cushing 2006-05-10 16:26:16 UTC
maybe someone who doesn't have this problem could tarball .mozilla config section and send it too me... so I can test that. just make sure you don't send me any passwords or such ;-) xenoterracide@gmail.com

This is an upstream issue, change your fonts to system under advanced settings from 96 dpi which is default for firefox-1.5.x
Comment 11 Caleb Cushing 2006-05-10 16:40:01 UTC
It's been at 72 dpi for a while... I think. however another interesting issue is that it's not displaying anything in that section in my preferences... didn't I file that bug before though... like 4 months ago.
