The use-flag 'akode' is specified throughout kde-base/kdemultimedia-3.5.2-r2.ebuild. But IUSE is missing the flag. Should be present in ebuild as user likely wants to use akode, but doesn't know of its omission. Related info: (1) This produces arts audio corruption in kde-specific applications (noatun, amarok, kcmshell arts): # USE="alsa arts audiofile -debug encode flac gstreamer kdeenablefinal mp3 musicbrainz theora vorbis xine xinerama" =kde-base/kdemultimedia-3.5.2-r2 (2) Adding "akode" to use flags, fixes audio output corruption. Sound is normal again. # USE="alsa akode arts audiofile -debug encode flac gstreamer kdeenablefinal mp3 musicbrainz theora vorbis xine xinerama" =kde-base/kdemultimedia-3.5.2-r2 (3) kde-base/kdemultimedia-3.5.2-r1.ebuild had no issues on my system.
07 Jun 2006; Diego Pettenò <flameeyes@gentoo.org> kdemultimedia-3.5.2-r2.ebuild: Add missing akode in useflags. Thanks to Jakub Moc in bug #135978. Regarding your other findings: The aRts developers advise to use aRts with aKode. My advise would be not to use aRts, when you can live without knotify, a jingling desktop and the one or the other application, which depends on it. All the problems with aRts from latency to crashes will never be properly fixed.
