Sergey recommended the recruitement of Peter in an email to gentoo-core on Date: Sun, 16 Apr 2006 18:03:28 +0300 that included a glowing reference for Peter's great contribution to ROX. "He has expressed interest in joining Gentoo on several occasions and from my side I can say that he did amazing job in keeping rox-extra and rox-base working and up-to-date." I'm keen to mentor Peter into devship to continue the support to Gentoo. As Peter's list of bugs contributions (ref URL) is enough to give bugzilla a small coronary, I recommend his recruitement.
This is some kind of really really sick joke, right?
Why would this be a sick joke?
(In reply to comment #2) > Why would this be a sick joke? > it's not, it's just ciaranm being nasty again. Peter: Sorry you were exposed to this. Ciaranm is no longer a gentoo developer, so his words have no effect on your recruitment.
Given his apparent attitude towards QA and coding standards (bug #105398 comment #3 being the first example I could find on Bugzilla, though I'm sure there are more) and his recent for want of a better word hissy fit on the gentoo-dev list, I have my concerns about Peter's suitability as a developer. The latter in particular inclines me to think that, say, a paste of repoman output is likely to be interpreted as a personal attack rather than a problem to be fixed.

Well, consider bug #105398 from a USER's pov. I submitted the enhancement not with any intention at the time for being a developer. Merely to contribute and help keep a woefully out-of-date package suite current. So, imaging, when I contribute, and I get a critique on line spacing of all things. Users should not be held to the same standard as devs. They should be THANKED and encouraged to participate. So, if the line spacing was off, the dev who will commit the ebuild (and Ciaran did not, btw even after corrections were made), should fix it. Users don't have repoman. In addition, there are plenty of ebuilds out there with far worse errors that seem not to be critiqued. As for the hissy fit, I am not sure what you mean. If you mean my comments about and towards Ciaran, I stand by them completely. If I cannot express (again, as a USER) my views about his attitude, then I suppose you do not me as a dev. If you would prefer more devs like Ciaran, who end up alienating more people than he recruits, that is fine. If you are looking to sponsor a community that seeks and encourages participation, then you should seek new blood -- me or others.
final quiz looks good to me.
