Description takken 2006-05-07 13:57:41 UTC
When I add a new printer using the administration web-frontend, I can select the device (USB, serial, ...) from a drop-down list. In my case, a USB printer is connected, and its name appears right of the first USB entry in the list.

When I am finished adding the printer, I can see that the device URI of the printer is now configured to be:

usb://EPSON/Stylus%20C46

which is plain wrong. And indeed, the newly added printer is not working. Unfortunately, the web frontend does not allow entering the correct device URI manually, so I need to shut down cupsd, hack /etc/cups/printers.conf to change the URI to:

usb:/dev/usblp0

and start cupsd again. Now the printer is working correctly. I need to go through this procedure every time again when I add a new printer.
