Description merwan kashouty 2003-01-04 13:22:51 UTC
i was searching the nvidia-linux forums and found a link to a commercial sound
driver to use on my nforce2 board that allows pretty much full functionality of
the harware under linux , so i was like 35 bucks no problem.

well problem is that the OSS driver install writes a static modules.conf that
screws up the way update-modules works with modules.d but you guys know more
then me.

could there possibly be an ebuild for this ? i would really like to keep these
drivers and there is no way i am giving up gentoo.

ciao

I'm running on an NFORCE2 with everything working (freely). More specifically on
an ASUS A7N8X... I have had to switch to the 2.4.20-ac2 kernel and still apply
two patches to that to get IDE and the 3Com NIC to work. (Mostly this is all PCI
ID's)

If you don't want to go trough all that pain, the nforce-net ebuild source also
has an nvaudio patch inside witch makes your kernel recognise the PCI id's for
audio but the former is more complete.

Not really related to your comments on the OSS driver however,,,

Problem is that we cannot host the tarballs, and for my currency $35 is a
bit steep to try and get an ebuild going =).

Can you try Bart's suggestions, or is this really needed ? If so, try
to create an ebuild ? Thanks.

I cannot fix this without a sample build, or donation of the drivers :(
Comment 4 merwan kashouty 2003-08-05 10:11:33 UTC
sample build as ebuild? as for the driver the is a trial version avaliable that work
with portage and then allow a a user if he/she chooses to to purchase the license
for it.
have you looked at the site?
Comment 5 merwan kashouty 2003-08-05 10:13:51 UTC
oh an a side not the original problems that started this bug opensound addressed
... the ebuild for the trial driver though would still be worthwhile ... i use alsa now
but still maintain the license for the driver i bought for my system.

Right, sorry, I did not look again.

Real reason I guess (apart from being misinformed, and not double checking
again), is that I do not use OSS, or 2.4 for that matter anymore.
Comment 7 Martin Schlemmer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-08-05 14:17:06 UTC
Please assign to somebody with 2.4 kernel that use OSS.
Comment 8 Tavis Ormandy (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-08-17 09:07:06 UTC
I use oss, assigning to self...
Comment 9 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-08-20 05:28:23 UTC
OSS is obsolete, this bug is obsolete as well.

Closing WONTFIX.
