When using pdf2ps or the kde printer-preview when printing a pdf it will end up in a very tiny font (the single letters are very small, but the spacing seems to be kept). After some searching I found this http://lists.debian.org/debian-printing/2006/02/msg00024.html bug-report for debian. The problem is the same, but I donnt know wether the solution can be adapted.
Does the ~arch version of ghostscript-esp instead of ghostscript-gnu help? I suggest you use that then, because it is better imo.
app-text/ghostscript-esp-8.15.1_p20060430 works fine. Why isnt it the default on amd64 when the other one is not working? (Why is the other one unmasked at all?)
There is a sexurity-bug open to mark it stable on amd64, but they dont react. And well, it seems -gnu has more bugs currently.
wont fix -gnu, please use -esp or -gpl, thanks
