Description Henrik Hudson 2003-01-04 00:34:35 UTC
Just installed 1.4rc2, stage 1. I followed the 1.4rc2 docs to a T, outside of
adding some reiserfs/xfs stuff and ppoe.

When I get to the point where it says "passwd" to set root passwd, I get a
command not found error. Grub and lilo do not exist either. I looked in all the
usual places, /bin,/sbin and their /usr equivilants.

If it matters I have the following mounts:

hda1 / ext2 500MB
hda2 swap
hda3 /usr ext3 6.5GB
hda5 /home ext3 1GB
hda6 /tmp ext3 1GB
hda7 /var ext3 500MB

The documentation was confusing previously and I think that you did not do an
"emerge system" which was needed. The docs should now be fixed but I'm
forwarding this issue to ZhEN for clarification.

I will look into this.

did you do a source /etc/profile after entering the chroot?

Comment 4 Henrik Hudson 2003-01-11 00:29:07 UTC
Yes, I did. I believe the problem was as Daniel Robbins pointed out. The old
docs seemed to imply that once you were done with the stage 1 tarball that you
had the equivalent of a finished stage 2...so I skipped everything in stage 2.
ie: I didn't do a emerge system.

Ah, okay.
There have been several issues like this one, and I have since changed the docs
so that they are clearer.

Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
