Description Yang Dehua 2006-04-30 21:58:02 UTC
I upgraded my system with gcc-4.1.0 and glibc-2.4-r1, and also gnome to 2.14 version. The compilation went smoothly but gnome-2.14 did not run properly when gtk+-2.8.16 was compiled with gcc-4.1.0: The gnome was brought up after startx whithout bakground, and cpu usage went to 100% due to nautilus. I could do nothing except shutting gnome down. I compiled gtk+-2.8.16 with gcc-3.4.4 using glibc-2.4-r1, and tried the gnome-2.14 again, it worked as expected. I also found the gnome would freeze if jpeg-6b-r6 or tiff-3.7.3 were compiled with gcc-4.1, but again gnome worked when they were compiled with gcc-3.4.4.
My emerge info:

This may be a ppc/ppc64 bug only, x86 here, with gcc 4.1 and had no problems whatsoever with 2.8.16 gtk with 2.14
Comment 2 Yang Dehua 2006-05-02 02:47:01 UTC
Tried USE="-X -tiff" to emerge gtk+-2.8.16 and jpeg-6b-r6 with gcc-4.1, gnome-2.14 workd. Now gimp and abiword are broken in my machine.
Comment 3 Yang Dehua 2006-05-05 03:35:46 UTC
After I compiled the kernel, and other upgrades in the last two days with glibc-2.4-r2 and gcc-4.1, the problem was gone. Now I have
[ebuild R ] x11-libs/gtk+-2.8.17 USE="X* jpeg tiff -debug -doc -xinerama" 0 kB
and gnome-2.14 works fine.
