The env.d howto, when discussing how etc-update integrates env.d with shells, 
referrs to csh.env and bash.env. bash.env does not exist, and I've never seen or 
heard of it in any distro.

Should actually be /etc/profile.env ....  Just change the bash.env to profile.env
....
