When I try to connect to the icq server, Kxicq crashes. It seems to be a problem with qt 3.1. A few weeks ago, before doing a "emerge -e world" it worked without any problems. Maybe a newer cvs-snapshot could solve the problem.
Tested the cvs-version, but it didn't fix the problem. It seems as if the kxicq developers have to catch up with the latest qt. I suggest to put kxicq into package.mask as long as these problems aren't solved. Greets Matt
kxicq seems a dying project. The last release was more than a year ago (and was for kde2). The cvs hasn't been committed into since November, and before November there were no commits since July. What _I_ would like is remove it from portage altogether as semidead; there are plenty of other icq clients in there anyway, including several for qt/kde. kxicq hardly seems one of the best. I'll look into the options of doing that...
By 'tested the cvs version' I take you to mean you tested their latest cvs off their sourceforge site, right? (Not the cvs snapshot in Portage).
Any chance this is resolved with >=qt-3.1.2-r1?
I can add that I used to use kxicq. It is rather unstable, and while I submitted a patch allowing it to read jabber originated messages, last time I checked it was still not incorporated. I think we should call this project dead as the lasted change in CVS was an icon patch from 5 months ago, that didn't solve the issues existing with the program allready then. Latest time I used it, it actually deleted your preferences if you opened the dialog. I propose to depreciate this package.
I second the above mentioned nomination - other software options are available now too.
I think so too. The kxicq project seems to be dead. But I don't really think that this is a big problem. There are enough icq clients available like kopete or gaim, which are both supporting server-side contact lists in their newest release. So just delete it from portage. I guess nobody is going to miss it... Matt
kxicq is now depreciated. As such we will not fix the bugs in it.
