Description kevin 2006-04-22 10:26:40 UTC
Going through the handbook for x86 gentoo installation with 2006.0 I ran into a small problem. Doing this install at work and the firewall times out, only way I've found to give it authentication is to use links to go to some website and enter usrname and pw.

Problem: After 'chroot'ing over to the new root with commands identical to the handbook's guide, 'links' is no longer a valid command and throws a bash.

Attempted solution: (USE="-X' emerge links), without (), I attempted this and used the -X flag to make sure I didn't download X dependicies with links (since it is still at the begining of chapter 8 in the whole install process and x shouldn't be installed yet). Next problem, it's still compiling after downloading what looked like 40K of data after about 2 hours. Is this normal for the above emerge?

How about that you switch to livecd console, instead of needlessly emerging links in chroot?
