Your /tmp/compile_output.log should show you the error message. Nothing we could do without it.

Did you change your CHOST or what?
CHOST has not been change it is still "i686-pc-linux-gnu". If you check the compile_output.log, during bootstrip process the i386-pc-linux-gcc-3.4.4 exits. After build i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc-3.4.5 then the build procees unmerge the i386 version of gcc and some of the subsequency make still ask for i386 version of gcc. I had supplied more information on 23rd-April, as the Status being set to RESOLVED nobody has look into this issue again. Regards Chris
Sigh; how about dropping support for these stages from livecd? Does more harm than good...
Well, this is an installer bug, so it doesn't belong to release until it becomes the default, all around.
Compilation failures are not installer bugs.
it isnt a bug in file sounds like the installer doesnt fix the host env after changing toolchains
ZOMG...
This *may* have been caused by the installer not running 'env-update && source /etc/profile' before running 'emerge -e system'. Try updating to the CVS installer by opening a terminal and running '/opt/installer/misc/updategtkfe'. Run your same install again. Please reopen this bug if you run into the problem again.
forgot to close :)
