Description Brett Johnson 2006-04-21 18:01:47 UTC
when choosing a stageX to install with hppa, there are 2 basic choices:

stage3-hppa1.1-2006.0.tar.bz2
stage3-hppa2.0-2006.0.tar.bz2

The difference is in the processor, hppa1.1 is for PA7xxx processors and 2.0 is for PA8xxx processor.

1.1 will work for both PA7xxx and PA8xxx, but 2.0 will not work on PA7xxx.

I think this would be good info to include in the hppa handbook.

rather than trying to list those details ourselves, we should redirect the user to this page:
http://www.openpa.net/cpu.html

just click the link for your CPU and the first item under Details is the parisc cpu version number

Added link and a blurb at the beginning of the medium hppa-only chapter.
Thanks for reporting.
