The script still needs tweaking and JAVACC_HOME should be used in the build.xml patch. env-update wasn't working for me, so I hard coded the path.

Scouring the web for this project, most pages still point at codehaus.org, which has been taken down a few months ago. Hence, I presume this project hasn't been updated in a long while. Closing this bug.
